About the project
How did it start?
Not Everything Matters began as a joke of some sort that I would use with my clients when teaching meditation and breathwork. I would quite often say the phrase as a reminder to not get stuck on the trivial things that make us hold onto past hardship in a way that stop us from growing. Little by little this phrase incorporated itself into different aspects of everyday life. As strange as that may sound, that little reminder often helps when it's important to remember "wait, this doesn't have to be perfect to be proud of it, does it?" That concept doesn't only apply to building a shelf - it applies to building yourself, your community, and anything else that you put your mind to.
my Rules for meditation
be okay with not knowing
Genuinely, this is the easiest thing. Just gaslight yourself enough until you are okay not getting an answer to your question - just sit with that feeling. Let that lack of answer be the silence - even if it only lasts 10 seconds. Next time see if it lasts longer. When you get stuck, after trying a few times, then ask for help.
active meditation then passive meditation
Let's face it - as a society we are a bunch of squirrel brained, ADHD, "neurodivergent" people with an addiction to screens and fried through EMF radiation. Let's get the energy out of our bodies first before anything else. Spend an equal amount of time active doing something, before trying to slow the brain down and journal or whatever other practice you are attempting.
commit a regular practice
This could be a few times a week for 30 minutes, or as often as 3 times a day for an hour each - it's a practice that you find helps you maintain balance. You have to start somewhere. Whatever the amount you set, it's important to commit that to yourself - that's the only way it improves. The goal is for it to become a normal part of the day where you don't have to "schedule" it...but at first, you have to develop the habit. Just like brushing your teeth.
Find community
Share your practice with others by living your life in a way that promotes health. "Mindfulness is contagious" - a phrase from a teacher years back. Be contagious with your practice - not obsessively, don't run around screaming about it - but find other's that want to grow. Being around others who want to learn and better themselves influences not just ourselves, but those we drag along with us - even if they are kicking and screaming at first, they'll probably enjoy it eventually.
Meet Bryan
Greetings Folks! I am so ecstatic to finally have this project underway and at the point that I would like it to be. I won't bore too much with the "lore" that is my life, but if you are curious to hear more listen to the podcasts, come to events, workshops, and get in touch. My work in teaching meditation, working with chronic pain, and creating content via audio and video is my attempt to share with people as much knowledge as I can - without burning myself out. I lived as an addict for over 15 years, and spent years studying, getting kicked around by life, and battling even wanting to be here anymore on a daily basis. Nature is what always pulled me back - every time. Eventually it took, and I got involved in learning meditation, Massage Therapy, and eventually training in the WooWoo. I never expected to be at the point I am at today, and I would not trade it for the world. Hopefully you like what I am building here, and if you are interested in collaboration or supporting the platform, please get in touch.
